meeting 1: 1/28/10

At the first meeting, present students elected officers for the spring semester. Elected officers are listed below:

Vice President: Christina Schneider

Secretary: Mallory Gannon
Treasurer: Natalie Shelton
P.R. Coordinator: William Boughan

The first thing we went over was a recap of last semester events. Last semester was great! We got a lot accomplished. This semester we strive for accomplishing more! SSA is growing each semester. It is expected to continue to grow, with growth comes responsibility.
Here are some ideas we discussed for this semester:

• Make open forums more public. Our open forums have always been a success, but they have usually consisted of only members of SSA. This semester we want all students on campus to participate, inviting them to our open forums to hear their voice as well. Some ideas included moving the open forum to the middle of the union, and using microphones.
• Starbucks and fairtrade awareness on our campus. Also, we will be thinking about attending auxilary services meetings to talk about starbucks and other fast food companies in the union.
• The next thing we want to do is bring awareness to our campus about the budget cuts this year. We have big plans to gather as many people as we can from public universities across Louisiana to bring this to the state. Louisiana is the flagship school for university and healthcare budget cuts. Lets do something about this! YOUR VOICE IS MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU KNOW!
